"This woman has given more than anyone else.  The rich gave money that they didn't need. This woman gave all that she has to live on."
After we watched the skit, we were asked two questions: How did the scribes show off?  Why did Jesus say the poor widow put in more than anyone else?

They had to TRUST that as they fell backwards their classmates would catch them.
In this exercise on TRUST we had a bowling ball tied to a rope. We held in to our face and let go.
We had to TRUST that it would not hit our face.  Do you think you could do this and not flinch?

One of the  participants could not agree and the rest left because they were mad that they wouldn't win the money.  Could you go against the rest and show your Christian beliefs?
One of our ninth grade classes put on a skit related to the upcoming Gospel.  It was called "Turn away from sin."  John the Baptist tells us to run away from sin and prepare for the coming of Christ.

DECEMBER 10

Each year our Confirmation class participates in a one day retreat.  We went to the Bishop O'Connor Catholic Center in Madison.
We spent the day doing activities.  This activity had us taking ordinary objects and coming up with which Sacrament it could represent.
We were fed very well.  We had a garden salad, spaghetti with sauce, garlic bread and a cookie for dessert.
As you can see we enjoyed each others company as we ate.

Our eighth grade led us in prayer.
Later, one of our ninth grade class put on the same skit.  They made props to go with "Fishers of People."

Saint of the Week:  Today we learned about Saint Colette.  She was given the power to reform existing monasteries and also to found new ones.
We listen to the Gospel for the coming weekend.  This is "The Sermon on the Mound."  Jesus climbed a hill and began speaking to the crowd of people.  He told them what happiness is.
We love to sing the "Apostle" song.  This is a great way to learn the Apostle names.
Msgr. Duane visited us and he talked about Saint Colett.  He also prayed with us before we went to our classes.
We love to see our young people doing good works.  Here we give a ribbon to one of our young students.  She teaches a third grade class on Wednesday afternoons.  Thank you for giving of your time and talents.

We have two groups of first graders.
The first graders love to learn about the many gifts we are given.

FEBRUARY 11

Fr. Paul Arinze talked to our Confirmation Class.  He talked about many moral issues that our young adults have faced or will face as they go through life.
Fr. Paul's talk included such issues as drugs, sex, artificial birth control, and abortion.  Also, he talked about music lyrics, movies and how these can effect how we view life that goes against our Catholic values.
Saint of the Week:  St. Valentine was a priest who secretly married couples after Emperor Claudius ordered that no marriages be celebrated.  He was sent to a dungeon.  He died on the fourteenth of February, in the year 270.
In the Gospel we listen to Jesus say to his disciples: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.  How hard do you think it is to love someone who is mean to you?  Can you forgive someone who took something of yours?
Today is Valentine's Day!  Pat and Barb have fun joking about "loving" each other.  The student's get into the act and had so much fun.
One of our fifth grade class made Ladybug cards for the kindergarteners.  They learned that in the Middle Ages, huge swarms of insects were eating up crops.  The people prayed to Mary for help.  Ladybugs came and ate the pests so they called the insect the "beetle of Our Lady," or Ladybugs.  The seven spots on a Ladybug represent the seven joys or seven sorrows of Mary.
Barb read an excerpt from the book "Left to Tell".  The reading showed how this young woman prayed to God to show her how to forgive her enemies that were killing people around her.  It was a very moving chapter in a book about a survivor of the genocide in Rowanda in 1994.

FEBRUARY 18

.

The Good News for this week is from the Gospel of Matthew.  As we start the season of Lent we listen as Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  We learn that we need to turn away from sin.
Kindergarten through 5th grade went to church for a prayer service.  We had some fifth graders read for us from scripture.
We listen closely to the Word of God.
We buried the Alleluia today.  Because it is now the season of Lent, we discontinue to say Alleluia until Easter when we will open the box and let out the Alleluia.
Msgr. Duane talks to us about the season of Lent.  He asks us to look around to see what is different in church.
We get a close look at the cross and crown of thorns that are displayed in church.  Msgr.  points out that he was told that these long, sharp thorns could quit possibly be like the ones put on Jesus' head.  He invited the children to come forward later to take a closer look.
Msgr. blesses the ashes that will be placed on our foreheads as we come forward.
We all come forward to receive ashes.  These ashes come from last years palms.
"Remember you are dust, and unto dust you shall return."
The sixth through tenth graders attend Ash Wednesday's Liturgy.  We had many of our young adults participate.
Our young adults took parts as readers, altar servers, members of the Folk Choir and as gift bearers.
Fr. Michael Radowicz blesses the ashes.
We all come forward to receive ashes on our forehead.  This is a symbol of our dying to Christ.

FEBRUARY 25

We love to sing!  We have an Apostle song we sing.  We love to volunteer to hold the sings with an Apostle name.
Saint of the Week:  We learned about St. Cloud, also known as Cloudulf.  He was a devout layman, then a model pastor, and the Bishop of Metz for over forty years.  What place in the United States has his name?
Gospel Time:   Today's Gospel is from Matthew, Mark and Luke.  [Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain to pray.  A bright cloud came and a voice said, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him."  They were terrified but Jesus told them not to be afraid.]  How can we listen to Jesus in the coming week?
Fr. Michael came to talk with us and he led us in prayer before we lined up and went to our classes.
Our 1st graders talked about Lent and how we can use these 40 days to be nicer to our friends and the people in our families.  We each decorated a cross to take home.
We are concentrating on Prayer for Lent. The 1st grade class is learning to use the correct hand to make the sign of the cross.
Lenten Activity:  Our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders took some time to learn about the "H2O Challenge", which they will be explaining to the 9th and 10th graders next week.
We watched a short video clip showing how in parts of the world people don't have clean water.  They get sick and die from drinking dirty water.  We are going to challenge ourselves to drink only tap water for 2 weeks and save the money we would spend on beverages.  For every $10 we earn, a life is saved with clean water.

MARCH 4

Confirmation:  Mary introduced Fr. Jim Baraniak, pastor at St. Norbert College and chaplain for the Green Bay Packers.
Fr. Jim talked to our Confirmation students and their sponsors.  His topic was, "Faith, Family and Football: A Religious Journey."  He shared some interesting stories about some of our favorite football players.
The Gospel today is from Luke:  Jesus told the story about a man who had a fig tree in his garden.  He came looking for fruit but there wasn't any.  He told his gardener to cut it down and plant something else that would give fruit.  The gardener wanted to try one more year.
Msgr. Duane led us in prayer and sent us off to class.
Lenten Activity: The 6th graders put stickers on cups to prepare for the "H2O Project" they are helping with.
Lenten Activity:  Our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders took some time to present to the 9th and 10th graders about the "H2O Challenge".
We watched a short video clip showing how in parts of the world people don't have clean water.  They get sick and die from drinking dirty water.  We are challenging ourselves to drink only tap water for 2 weeks and save the money we would spend on beverages.  For every $10 we earn, a life is saved with clean water.
The 6th graders handed out the cups to students who were interested in  taking this challenge.
They also had wristbands for anyone to wear for these next 2 weeks to remind them to drink only tap water and save their money to donate to this wonderful project.

MARCH 11

Gospel:  Once there was a rich farmer with two sons. The younger son asked his father for his share of the farm now.  The father agreed and gave him his share.  He left and spent it all.  He came back home to ask his father to treat him like a servant.  His father ran to him, kissed him and welcomed him back.
Saint of the Week:  We heard about St. Patrick.  His greatest desire was to proclaim the Good News to the Irish.  He felt called to do mission work in pagan Ireland.  He ordained many priests, founded several monasteries and urged his people to greater holiness in Christ.
These 2nd graders practice how they should hold their hands when they receive the Sacrament of Eucharist in a few weeks.
Last week we started the H20 Project.  We were asked to give up all beverages except tap water for two weeks.
We listened to the second video that tells us a little more about the people that are out there drilling wells. We will take the money and give it to an organization that will use it to drill a well to get clean water and save lives.
1John 3:17-18 says, "If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need, but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?  Dear children, let us love not with words or tongue, but with actions in the truth."  We are reminded to bring in our money next week.

MARCH 18

Gospel:  Jesus made his way to the Temple, where he sat down and taught the people.
We are so blessed to have Fr. Michael spend time with us and to lead us in prayer.
We had plastic eggs setting around.  A student came up and picked an egg.  In each egg was a symbol of the Resurrection Story.
Our elementary students spend their class time in church.  We listened to each Station of the Cross and sang in between each station.
We are nearing the end of the Lenten Season.  We will soon be bringing back out the "Alleluia."
For the last two weeks we've been drinking only tap water for the H20 Project.  We brought our money in to put into our well.
We spent time counting the money we brought in.  We are getting very excited as we count.
For every $10 raised, a life is being saved.
As each $10 raised, our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders cheered and did the wave.  For every $10 raised, a life is being saved.  Way to Go!  Congratulations!  We raised over $500.
One of our ninth grade class baked cookies for Luke House.
Our eighth grade classes spent the evening doing "Service" for our parish.  this group helped get the candles ready for Easter Vigil.
Some others cleaned the church.  We got the dust as high up as we could.
This ninth grade class did a reading about Easter.
This 7th grade also did a skit.
They always have fun being the center of attention.
We even had our own judging by, "Paula, Randy and Simon."  How fun is that?
