YOUTH ACTIVITIES

"Holiness is not the luxury of a few people, but a simple duty for you and me."
-BL Teresa of Calcutta

Fall is here. WOW!  What a summer it has been, full of mission trips, serving communities, enjoying the taste of s'mores by the campfire, and let's not forget 'celebrating our hard work at water parks'.  Words really can't adequately communicate all the wonderful experiences I was able to partake in this summer with our youth.

Even though the summer was wonderful, there is something about fall that really brings a community together.  Whether it is when you are sitting on the bleachers cheering on the Cardinals to a win, immersing yourself in school activities, or spending time with family and friends.  God is delighted when you are enjoying community events or loving your families.  But, what if there was more?  What if there was an instrument that could impact your child's life to help them grow in faith and live holy lives?  Look no further.  We have multiple opportunities for your child to participate in.

These events are not only fulfilling but VERY enjoyable.  Your child will not regret going and neither will you.  Please, prayerfully consider encouraging your child to attend these events.

KAIROS TEC: (Ages 16-90) (TOGETHER ENCOUNTERING CHRIST)

I made my first TEC when I was 16 years old and it continues to play a role in my life.  It is designed primarily for the youth and is very enriching, motivating and exciting.  My Parents first went when they were in their 40s and they still are actively involved.

Kindergarten - 5th grade students meet on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-4:45 p.m. in Sacred Hearts School. The students begin in the gymnasium for a 15 minute large group session followed by 1 hour of class. CALL TO FAITH is a completely new religious education program rooted in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We are committed to sharing the richness of our past, engaging the realities of our present, and developing skills to meet the challenges of our future.

6th - 10th grade students meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:15 p.m. in various buildings on the Parish Complex.

Sixth Grade through Eighth Grade will be using a new curriculum series.

Sixth Grade
will be using the Faith and Life Series.  This series give an overview of a Christian life and the laws of God, especially in the Ten Commandments and the graces we receive to help us fulfill His law.  There is an emphasis on faith and understanding of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Mass.
The lessons aim to help each student grow to love and live as Jesus Christ did, as well as help them understand the Mass and treasure it as our greatest prayer to God.

As seventh graders they will develop a deeper understanding of god's revelation.  The intent is for each seventh grade student to cherish the sacraments and appreciate them as an important component to fulfill our Catholic faith.  The Faith and Life Series does a fantastic job of accentuating the importance of grace as the center of our relationship with God.

The eighth grade curriculum helps the students understand the Church and the roles we play as a member of the body of Christ.  To help students live a holy life as a Christian within the world we must strengthen our knowledge of Church and the history of the Church.  This year the students will learn about the Magisterium, the clergy, the religious and the laity, and how to live out their own vocation.

Living Our Faith - Church meets young adolescents where they are, with materials that honor their experiences and invite them to grow in their faith. Living Our Faith is used in the 9th grade. Pathway through Scripture is used for the 10th grade as they deepen their love and understanding of the Bible.

The 11th graders focus on preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which they celebrate in the spring. Confirmation classes will meet one Sunday evening each month from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Each student receives a "Red Book" that covers the necessary steps to worthily receive Confirmation as well as a curriculum that covers the basic tenets of Catholicism with special emphasis on the Holy Spirit.

The Christian Formation Fund

The Christian Formation Fund is an investment fund for the future needs of the parish. The Principle is never spent, but the interest is available for the department to use for the good of all members of the parish. Donations may be made through the bi-monthly envelope or directly to the Christian Formation Office. Each October, we present a check to a family that represents the Christian Formation program in our church. Each year, our Christian Formation program is blessed with a check to assist us in continuing the fine Catholic Education that Sacred Hearts is known for. This year, we presented a check in the amount of &1,674.43 Thank you to each of you who contribute to our Christian Formation Fund. May God bless you richly!
