The Sacraments, RCIA
and Pastoral Care

One of the most important ways that Christ ministers to His Church is through the Sacraments. We have a strong Sacramental life here at Sacred Hearts, which is centered around the presence of our Lord in the Eucharist.

We also want to reach out to the sick, the dying and the homebound in our parish community. They are important members of our parish family and the Church, and they must feel the love and the presence of Christ as well.

Confirmation

You will find the Schedule for the 2010-2011 class dates by going to Christian Formation.

Eleventh graders are invited to begin the final stages of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which they receive in the spring.

The new speaker/discussion based curriculum has been developed in the hopes that the students might better understand the role of confirmation in their life and the responsibilities they take on now as a candidate and later as a full and active member of our faith community. This speaker/discussion based program will help them learn more about the Catholic faith and will challenge them to take a deep and meaningful look at their own faith life.

In order to prepare for Confirmation, the students are expected to:

  • Choose a Sponsor (a practicing Catholic who is not bound by any Church penalty who the student feels close to);
  • Complete 35 service hours in the three areas of family, community, and church;
  • Attend a winter retreat; retreat 001.JPG (63693 bytes) retreat 005.jpg (41071 bytes)
  • Participate in a spring interview with a Parish Staff member; and
  • Write a letter to the Pastor which explains their desire to be Confirmed.

CONFIRMATION CALENDAR

Marriage

Coordinator: Rev. Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt
Telephone: (608) 837-7381 during normal business hours

As soon as a couple is engaged, they are expected to contact a priest of the parish at least one year (twelve months) in advance of the date on which they hope to celebrate their wedding.

When the priest has determined that there are no canonical impediments preventing the couple from marrying, the priest will book the date of the celebration of the wedding. The engaged couple is responsible for securing the date with the church before making commitments with caterers, reception halls, etc.

At least one of the couple should be an active, registered parishioner of Sacred Hearts and plan on worshipping with us regularly, before and after the ceremony.

During the twelve months prior to the wedding, a couple should explore their call to the sacrament of married life through learning, sharing, prayer, and growth in order to discover the blessings and insights your Christian heritage offers. Several aspects of this process will occur during these months prior to your wedding.

Anointing of the Sick

Coordinators: Rev. Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt or Fr. Brian Dulli
Telephone: (608) 837-7381 during normal business hours

The Church believes and confesses that among the seven sacraments there is one especially intended to strengthen those who are being tried by illness, the Anointing of the Sick

Supporting and Praying for Vocations

Sacred Hearts Parish has begun a program of prayer for vocations. Each Sunday, a family is presented with a special chalice. The chalice is taken to the family's home, and the family prays for vocations for one week. Families interested in participating can sign up for a week in the narthex of the church. The chalice will be given to the first priest to be ordained from Sacred Hearts. A crucifix was also purchased to be given to the first brother, sister, or permanent deacon from our parish.

You are also welcome to download and view our Prayer Book that accompanies the chalice if you would to pray for vocations as well!!

Maybe you know of someone who might make a good priest, deacon, or religious brother or sister? Maybe you yourself have heard the call of God to answer to this very important call. Please contact Msgr. Duane and Fr. Brian, and they would be happy to work with you.

Office of Pastoral Care

In response to Christ’s call and to the contemporary situation of sicknesses, the aging process, loneliness, death, and special needs, Sacred Hearts Parish is called to be a caring community which continues the care and concern of Christ’s healing presence among us. This ministry can never be limited, but must be seen in the broad context of the sacrament of human concern in ministries of Christian service.

The Pastoral Care Ministry provides Christian caring and service to all parishioners in need, especially the handicapped, homebound, elderly, bereaved and lonely.

Ministry of the Eucharist: ministers of the Eucharist bring Holy Communion to those confined to their home. If you wish to receive Communion in the home call the Parish Center and ask for Sister Anne Raymond.

Ministry of Prayer: a group of volunteer parishioners who pray for the needs of others. Prayers for special needs may be requested by calling the Parish Center and asking for Sister Anne Raymond.
Ministry of Services: parishioners help the handicapped, the elderly, the homebound with odd jobs, shopping, transportation. If services are needed call the Parish Center.

The Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick are given as requested. Call the Parish Center to make arrangements.
