Baptism

The community of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church has the following guidelines:

Parent(s) anticipating a baptism for their first baby/child:

Á must be registered members of Sacred Hearts Parish,

Á or must have a relational tie to the parish with a letter from the pastor of their own parish, delegating us permission to Baptize their child,

Á will join other prospective parents for one preparation session at the Sacred Hearts Parish Center. Please call Barb Rogan at 837-8509 to register,

Á and schedule a date for their child's Baptism upon completion of the class.

Baptism classes are held in the Parish Center, on the second Tuesday evening every other month, starting in August, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Upcoming dates for 2008 are posted in the bulletin and include:

February 12, April 8, June 10, August 12, October 14, December 9

Parents who have had a previous child baptized:

Á should call Barb Rogan, 837-8509 for an informal meeting, to fill out the appropriate paperwork and look at available Baptism dates.

Text Box: Godparents accept to cooperate in the spiritual life and development of their godchild.
The following are criteria to be considered in choosing godparents: (CIC #874)
1. Must be at least 16 years old..
2. Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken.
3. Not be the Father or mother of the one to be baptized.
4. A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may not be admitted except as a witness to baptism together with a Catholic sponsor.
In addition, ALL SPONSORS are required to obtain a certificate of eligibility from the parish in which they worship.
