Our Parish Family

Sacred Hearts of Jesus and MaryFounded in 1863, Sacred Hearts Parish strives to model our parish life and activities in the love of our Lord and our Blessed Mother. Our Lord's heart, crowned with thorns, reminds us of the deep love that He showed to every human person by giving His life for the sake of our salvation. Our Blessed Mother's heart was pierced with a sword in knowing what her Son must endure, but she gives us hope and promises us that she and her Son will never abandon those who love God with all their heart, soul and strength. It is in this hope and love that we come together to celebrate the Sacraments and bring the love of Christ's Church to our Sun Prairie community.

Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary School was founded in 1892 as part of the established Sacred Hearts Church in Sun Prairie. Founded to first and foremost ensure that the teachings of the Church are passed down to future generations, Sacred Hearts School, a member of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Madison, has a 4K through 8th grade population of approximately 350 students from in and around the Sun Prairie area. Our children are the future of the Church, and Sacred Hearts Parish believes that providing a solid educational and spiritual program for its students is an important role. We are blessed to be supported by both Sacred Hearts and St. Albert the Great Parishes, with tremendous support from our parents and area community members.

Our Christian Formation program ministers to more than 200 students in elementary and secondary education. The program begins by providing a sound background for our beginning students with basic, catechetical instruction. Once the student has a good understanding of the fundamentals of the faith, the remaining years are spent strengthening and enriching that faith in many different ways. The capstone of our catechesis is our Confirmation program, which prepares our high school freshman for full membership in the Church.

Our pastoral staff is committed to the sick and the homebound as well. The pastoral staff make regular visits to area nursing homes, care centers and hospitals, providing the Sacraments to those who are not physically able to be present with us at Mass.

Christ is present in all people and in all things. Through prayer, catechesis, formation, the holy Mass and spiritual renewal, our parish carries on the mission of the Church to proclaim the Gospel to all nations.

"Catholic Pioneers on the Prairie"

A 30-page booklet on the founding of Sacred Hearts, "Catholic Pioneers on the Prairie"  is a work that was researched, written and designed by Joseph Hanneman.

"Along with Pioneer Priests and many thousands of the faithful across Wisconsin, they firmly planted the cross of Christ on the new ground in 1863."

With God’s grace we will continue to faithfully share the Gospel message of hope, peace and joy with the generations to come.”
